EU Knowledge Hub

The EU Knowledge Hub on the Prevention of Radicalisation is a collaborative platform established to foster the exchange of expertise, research, and best practices among EU Member States and international partners in the fields of counter-terrorism and preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE). It builds on the legacy of the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) Practitioners and RAN Policy Support, ensuring the continuity and further development of the EU’s efforts to counter radicalisation and violent extremism. The Knowledge Hub bridges the gap between academic research, operational practice, and policymaking, offering a centralized space for knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and evidence-based policy development.

Through its network of experts, practitioners, and policymakers, the EU Knowledge Hub supports strategic initiatives by producing reports, facilitating thematic discussions, and promoting research that informs both national and European security strategies. It enhances the EU’s ability to anticipate and respond to evolving threats, focusing on key areas such as radicalisation prevention, rehabilitation and reintegration of extremist offenders, and the management of foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs). Innovation, interdisciplinary approaches, and a strong emphasis on practical application are central to its work.

Dr. Thomas Renard, ICCT Director, was appointed as member of the EU Knowledge Research Committee, in late 2024, and elected as Chair of the Research Committee in February 2025. The EU Knowledge Hub Research Committee consists of 15 leading European scholars, appointed to advise the European Commission on strategic orientations related to radicalisation and violent extremism. As Chair of the Research Committee, Dr Renard briefed for instance EU member states representatives (NPPMs) in April 2025. He also delivered remarks in the opening panel of the Townhall Meeting organised in Brussels by the European Commission, on 14 May 2025, gathering over one hundred researchers, policy-makers and practitioners.

Additionally, Meryl Demuynck was appointed as member of the Thematic Panel on the Management of Foreign Terrorist Fighters in early 2025. The Thematic Panels convene several times every year, and consist of a group of researchers, policy-makers and practitioners.
